WEEKDAYS
LUNAR DAYS- TITHIS
YOGAS
Instructions:
To determine how good
or bad a day is, as well as its suitability for various activities,
consult a Vedic calendar to obtain, and note the following on a sheet of
paper:
-
The
Day of the Week (Vaara)
- Sunday, Monday etc.
-
The
Lunar Day of the Week (Tithi) and the Paksha which tells you whether the moon is
waxing or waning. Shukla Paksha is the waxing phase, while
Krishna Paksha is the waning phase.
-
The
Ruling Nakshatra of the Day .i.e. the constellation in which the
moon lies on that day.
-
The
Yoga for the day.
A Vedic
calendar is precise and gives the exact time when each of these
change.
-
In
general, you must give the most importance to the Nakshatra
(constellation), and also check the readings of the Nakshatra of the
day with reference to ‘how it is for you, specifically’ using the
relevant chart given on the site.
-
Following
a consideration of the Nakshatra factor, consider the Tithi or Lunar
Day as well as the Paksha, which tells you whether the moon is waxing
or waning. In general the waxing moon (Shukla Paksha) is considererd
more beneficial than the waning moon (Krishna Paksha). The
nature of a tithi or lunar day can be seen from the chart given on
this page.
-
Other
than The Nakshatra and Tithi, you should consider the nature of the
weekday (Vaara), and the Yoga for the day. The temperaments and nature
of these are given in tabulations on this page.

The
lunar day is considered an important factor in influencing our
minds. Historically, the waxing
or waning moon has been associated with the mind (consider the term
lunacy), and the full moon
and lunar eclipses have been associated with mental problems and
even an increase in deformed births.
The
current tithi or lunar day can be seen from a reading of the Vedic
Calendar (Panchang)

***
Dwadashi (the 12th Thithi has been regarded by many as
unfavorable;
however B.V.Raman indicates that experience shows the 12th
Tithi to be quite auspicious,
particularly, if other factors are positive. The 4th, 8th,and
14th Tithis are regarded as
unfavorable by many authors, whether the moon is in a waxing or
waning phase.
